Smart Telecom and RIM launch the first CDMA BlackBerry in Indonesia


As Indonesia recently got introduced to the BlackBerry solution, they have been strictly on GSM networks (for BlackBerry devices). Earlier this week Smart Telecom provided the first CDMA BlackBerry in the country, enabling their customers to go on to the BlackBerry solution. With a variety of carriers in Indonesia, customers can be more flexible in choosing who to sign up with for service as they all provide BlackBerry. Jakarta, Indonesia – Smart telecom, a national cellular operator, and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, today launched the EVDO-enabled BlackBerry® Curve™ 8330 smartphone in Indonesia.

Smart will offer the BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone with two service plan options – Smart BlackBerry Hemat monthly for IDR 140,000 and Smart BlackBerry Hemat daily for IDR 5000.

By subscribing to the BlackBerry® service offered by Smart, customers get unlimited Internet and email access on Smart’s high-speed network at an affordable price. The service also allows subscribers to enjoy unlimited video streaming (RTSP), access to popular instant messaging services (BlackBerry® Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger, Windows Live™ Messenger and Google Talk) and social networking sites (Facebook® and MySpace).

Activating BlackBerry service from the BlackBerry Curve 8330 is very easy – users simply send an SMS to 2233 with the text “ON Hemat30” for monthly service or “ON Hemat1” for daily service. To deactivate, users can send an SMS with the text “OFF” to 2233. There is no condition on subscriber type, all prepaid and postpaid customers can be benefit from the BlackBerry service.
